The Davidson County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is responsible for maintaining court records with and serving the needs of the judiciary, legal professionals and community.

The includes filling requests for copies of court records from the Circuit, Probate, General Sessions-Civil Division, and Traffic Courts. Court records are documents generated during legal proceedings, such as criminal case files, bankruptcy records, and records from family or probate court. These records contain information about legal proceedings, including names of involved parties, hearing dates, testimony and evidence, and rulings in cases. Court records are kept on-site for a certain amount of time and then disposed of or archived. Most are considered public records, though some may be sealed or have information redacted when copies are provided to the public. The current Davidson County Circuit Court Clerk is Joseph P. Day.

The Davidson County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office fills requests for court records in accordance with the Tennessee Public Records Act. To this end, they provide a public record request form online, which may be used to request court records. Requests should include the name and contact information of the person making the request, as well as information that identifies the court records being requested. This may include one or more of the following: a case number; the first and last name of the plaintiff and/or defendant; the names of others involved in the case, such as attorneys; the document type; a date range for when the record was filed; and the case status (open or closed). Specifying what the request is for and if the record copies should be certified or not may also be useful. Certified records are stamped by the Clerk’s Office to indicate they are true copies of the original record.
